Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time – Year C
Word for today
The Gospel of Luke 21:5-19
Time for our knees
From the book of the prophet Malachi.
For lo, the day is coming, blazing like an oven, when all the proud and all evildoers will be stubble, And the day that is coming will set them on fire, leaving them neither root nor branch, says the LORD of hosts. But for you who fear my name, there will arise the sun of justice with its healing rays; And you will gambol like calves out of the stall (Malachi 3:19-20).
I do not want to lose you, earthly paradise, despite all the wounds that we have caused you; I do not want to lose you, beautiful paradise, my motherland. And likewise, starry sky, I do not want to lose you either, I do not want to lose your light and your mystery. I do not want to lose your friendship, your mountains and your glaciers, nor do I want to lose your incredible mischievous eye, birds of the sky. I do not want to lose your smile, you people of every day and every corner of the earth.
Be patient earth and be patient heaven, these little ant-men do not know what they are doing. They do not know what awaits them, they do not know what they are provoking for themselves with so much effort and determination. Be patient earth, be patient heaven, they do not know what they are doing, they have been deceived and are lazy.
Be patient a while more Lord, delay that day for a little while: the day when blazing like an oven, all the proud and all evildoers will be stubble. And the day that is coming will set them on fire, leaving them neither root nor branch (Malachi 3:19).
Hold back your arm, hold back your angels that await the command and the order to let loose in heaven and on earth the terrible burden of the consequences of our choices.
On our knees and with love let us recognize your authority above all and everything, Lord.
Give to those who still have a tiny bit of true humility, a tiny bit of true faith the time to get down on their knees every night to recognize and ask for forgiveness for how far we have strayed from the Light.
May your justice come, Lord, may it rise like the sun from the ashes of our violent arrogance. Bring your healing, heal our wounds, dry every tear with the sun of your presence. Free us from the chains of slavery in which we have fallen. Renew our freedom as Your children. May our steps be jumps for joy and our songs infinite gratitude.
Give us more time, Lord, time for our knees, time to get down on our knees to ask for forgiveness and for the conversion of our hearts.
For the sake of Your name, in the name of Your creation, in the name of Your little children who love You and follow You, delay that day of fire, Lord, God of the Universe, but, as always, and as it must be, not our will, but Yours be done.
